Introduction

The Childhood Trust has partnered with Chance UK to offer My Time, a child-focused mentoring programme for corporate volunteers looking to make long-lasting, positive impact on the lives of local children through one-to-one engagement.

* Please note: this programme is offered exclusively to the employees of companies in partnerships with The Childhood Trust.

My Time

The programme provides solution focused mentoring and group workshops for children aged 5-13 experiencing behavioural and emotional difficulties. Volunteers in the programme will mentor their matched child through one mentoring session per week to help build the child’s self-esteem and confidence.

In 2020, 87% of children supported by Chance UK’s mentoring programmes saw a reduction in behavioural difficulties at home.

What do volunteer mentors do?

  • Mentors will need to be able to volunteer 2-4 hours every week (virtually during COVID-19) with their matched child for 6-9 months.
  • Mentors will plan weekly sessions with support and guidance from one of Chance UK’s Programme Managers.
  • Mentoring sessions should consist of fun and engaging 'problem-free' time away from the child's homelife and school.
  • Mentors and their matched child may also attend group sessions that help to build social and emotional skills.

What do volunteer mentors receive?

  • Mentors will receive comprehensive mentor training (including Safeguarding training) and have the support of a Chance UK Programme Manager throughout their time in the programme.
  • Chance UK provides volunteers with a monthly budget to cover the costs of the weekly mentoring sessions. We also reimburse travel expenses (when relevant) up to £40 a month with valid receipts.
