Our research mission is simple: to listen, learn, share and make changes for the better together. It's core to our approach as an informed grant-maker and charity delivering our own community outreach work. It helps us to hear, understand and amplify the voices of children living in poverty in London.
By truly understanding the challenges and opportunities, we ensure our funding, practical support, and volunteer work bring us closer to a future where every child leads a happy, healthy, and safe life.
We use various methods including interviews, focus groups, workshop sessions and surveys. Wherever possible and appropriate, we include the child’s voice in our research to put them at the forefront of driving change.
In addition to our dedicated resource within our organisation, we also use trusted sources of expertise within the poverty and London sector, like Trusts for London and Trussel Trust, and partner with others such as the University of Cambridge.
We use research to:
We conduct two research papers per year to better understand the challenges faced by children living in poverty across London.
Accurate monitoring and evaluation ensures that the projects we fund are continually meeting the needs of disadvantaged children as effectively as possible.
Every year as part of London Challenge Poverty week, The Childhood Trust together with the London Child Poverty Alliance hosts the London Child Poverty Summit. A one-day event featuring presentations, panels, and debate from a wide range of experts on child poverty, including government representatives, educators, youth workers, and young people impacted by poverty.
