Introduction

Over the last six months, charities have experienced a severe reduction in funding opportunities with the elimination of fundraising events and the broader funding sector suffering under the uncertainty of the country's financial situation. Staff have been furloughed and capacity has reduced yet demand from children and young people has increased steeply. By helping charities to raise unrestricted funding to run their core projects and services, the Christmas Challenge helped to prevent the closure of vital youth projects, and in turn, is effectively assisting the growing number of already disadvantaged children whose suffering has been exacerbated by the current crisis.

Projects funded by the Christmas Challenge are providing a range of activities and opportunities that help to alleviate the negative impacts of COVID-19, including hot meals, help with homework, play projects, psychotherapy, mentoring, sports training, and arts education.

2020 Campaign Outputs

  • £3,060,469 raised for 85 projects supporting disadvantaged children
  • An estimated 144,000 children and young people supported by projects through 2021

"We are absolutely thrilled about the outcome.. our total number of donors was up 29% on our previous maximum and more than double the number we achieved just 2 years ago. The impact of Big Give on growing our donor base is amazing and we couldn’t do it without The Childhood Trust. Thank you so much."
